To God be the Glory, great things He has done

On Tuesday, I had my CT Scan.

On Thursday, my oncologist told me that ‘my scans were excellent.’ There is no evidence of cancer in my scans, and he even used the term “remission”!!! As he joked, I did have a LOT of chemo, and he feels that it was effective. Praise the Lord.

My Northstar bloodwork numbers crept up rather than lowering this time around, so I will have that test run again in two months. If the oncologist isn’t pleased with those numbers, he will likely order another scan or further tests to try to see what it is that that test is picking up. He does not seem overly concerned about those results at this time, but it is something that we will be monitoring.

So…I am in remission from colon cancer!! It remains to be seen how often I will need tests and scans to make sure the cancer stays away, but we trust that the Lord who has led us this far will continue to lead us in the future. Words cannot express our joy and relief at this news, and how thankful we are for all who have walked beside us during it.

This week in my scripture reading, these verses stood out to me. I found them beautiful and comforting:

“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
He stilled the storm to a whisper,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.
They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet.
Then he guided them to the harbor they longed for.”

Psalm 107:28-30 (CSB)

What peace and comfort that brings, to know that the Lord is guiding us to the harbor we long for.

Prayer requests:

• Our beach trip is coming up! Pray that it will be a time of rest, recovery and sweet family ‘togetherness’ before the fall semester starts.

• We have no idea what life looks like on the other side of cancer treatments, and how to adjust back to normal (what is normal anymore?). Pray for us to have wisdom as we shift back to life without chemo treatments. Pray that I will give myself, my family and my friends grace as we navigate new things together.

• In the weird and wild world of insurance, we have just started to receive bills for my chemotherapy. The Lord has provided for us financially through this whole process (through many generous friends!), so pray that we will continue to trust Him in this.

• The new school year is fast approaching, with Nathan and Georgia returning to NGU, and Baxter, Eleanor and Fuller returning to homeschool (but with some different co-ops /dual enrollment and more). Spring semester during my chemotherapy was a struggle with homeschooling so I am hopeful that the fall semester will be different.
